About
Hello! My name is Barb and I help companies visually communicate who they are, what they do, and what sets them apart from their competition. As a designer, it is my pleasure to bridge the gap between a company’s complex idea and people understanding why it matters to them. Over the past ten years I have collaborated with in-house marketing teams to help companies tell their story and expand their audience.
Design is more than just finding the perfect typeface, after all. That's baseline. To me, it is 80% thinking and 20% execution. It’s doing the mental heavy lifting so your viewer doesn’t have to. It’s about making lives better. Because of this I am always finding ways to improve internal processes or entertain an audience while delivering the message. Limitations are the perfect excuse to be more creative, not just accept things as “good enough” the way they are.
In 2011 I received my BFA in graphic design, but I never stopped learning. In addition to keeping up with industry software and trends, I am always adding new skills to my tool belt. My current focus is mastering animation in After Effects.
When I’m not adjusting kerning and polishing visual identity, I enjoy participating in the local car scene, from attending car shows to helping run events. I also build computers and play games on them, usually with the guild I founded with friends in 2007, which has since grown into a large community. In the summer I play beach volleyball and we pick up new players every week from all walks of life. My interests are vast and curiousity insatiable, so I am constantly reading to improve myself as a designer, person, and citizen.
